Society for Basic Urologic Research
Annual Meeting 2008

Welcome

Dear Friends and Colleagues:

It is a pleasure to invite you to attend the Society for Basic Urologic Research’s 18th Annual Fall Meeting that will take place at the delightful Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak in Phoenix, Arizona. The meeting will be held from November 20 − 23, 2008. Dr. Shuk-Mei Ho and the Program Committee have done an outstanding job at assembling an exciting and comprehensive program on the “Epigenetics of Genitourinary Disorders.” This promises to be an educational and interactive experience.

The meeting will start off with a keynote lecture by Dr. Carlo Croce, one of the leaders in understanding the role of microRNAs and cancer. The first scientific session will focus on mechanisms of epigenetics regulation. This will be followed by a mini-symposium focusing on new therapeutics for GU cancers. The third session will look at epigenetic biomarkers and therapies. Finally, the Sunday session will look at development and epigenetics. The Saturday and Sunday sessions will be capped off by two outstanding keynote lectures – the first by Dr. Peter Jones (the AUA speaker) and the second by Dr. John Isaacs (winner of the SBUR Meritorious Award).

In addition to the scientific lectures, there will also be very active poster presentations, as well as exciting social activities. This is clearly the event for urology research in 2008 and something that should not be missed. Senior and junior investigators alike will benefit, as it is an excellent opportunity to meet new people, as well as revisit established relationships. Students and fellows who are working in the broad field of urologic research should all be encouraged to attend this outstanding meeting. Travel awards will be available for young investigators.

I hope that each of you will consider attending this important meeting. The subject of the meeting is timely and at the vanguard of urology research. Dr. Ho went to great lengths to invite outstanding speakers who will bring their perspectives and most recent research to the urology research community.

I look forward to seeing all of you in Phoenix in November. The weather will be great and the science will be even better!

Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions for the meeting. I can’t wait to see you there!
